Two weeks ago I had the worst day on my life. I was working, was outside London in the Essex area going to do a drop in one of the places that I usually do. It was a very nice and quiet day that turned into a total disaster.
So there I was on the give way sign waiting for cars to pass, but being in a blind spot and unable to have a good view on the right side you have to drive forward a bit to be able to see if there are any incoming cars. So I gently started going forward, driving a van takes time to go on, I was about two miles an hour and about a quarter of my van was on the main road. Without even realising around the corner this very small car comes speeding towards me. Did not know what to do, thought to myself at the moment if I go forward she will do a full frontal crash in my van as it is a long Sprinter. When I saw her I really hoped that she will try to avoid me or brake or anything whatsoever but from what I saw she just took her hands of the driving wheel and just crashed in my front right bumper. Got out of the car as I was fine and no injuries as my van is three times her car, went to the other car and checked if everyone is fine. There was a young lady in the front seat with probably her boyfriend and a very large dog for my surprise, probably a hound English dog.
At the scene I asked if everyone was fine and if they needed me to call ambulance or police. Nobody was called at the scene so everything was settled and information was exchanged at the scene very polite. For my surprise her car was fine just very small damage, but when I looked at the bumper it looked very bad so I had to drive it for the whole day like that. When I got back to the office everyone already got me a new nickname, the Smasher, not very funny as I really tried explaining everyone that there was nothing I could have done. The next day the insurance people came and took a look at the car, apparently now it has been written off. To bad as it was the only fast van in the company and everyone needed it whenever they went up north to Leeds for drops.
And that's about it about the accident, nobody injured, cars smashed badly and the insurance companies are still "fighting" each other. So long my dear van...
Bellow there is a image of the place where the accident happen so imagine that instead of that skinned HGV it is me in a van and somebody comes from the left (probably at 100 miles an hour) and then crashes into you while you try to drive in slowly.
